The two steps

1. First, fill in the subscription form on the right. That's how we'll know which membership you prefer and how much you want to pay, which saves us a good amount of time in administration. Here below, you'll find the three membership formulas currently on offer.

2. Next, create a new profile in our inventory, where you'll find a comprehensive overview of our tools. By making use of this profile, you can make reservations and check the availability of your desired tools. Having a profile in the inventory is mandatory in order to borrow tools at Tournevie.

The Three formulas

1.  Standard

An annual membership of € 20 for one individual.

2. Extra support

An annual membership of € 40 for one individual.

This is your way of giving Tournevie some extra financial support to cover maintenance and other costs. In exchange, you get to nickname one of the power tools in our inventory. That means any member can then get to work with your 'unique' tool!

3. Organisation

An annual membership of € 50 for organisations.

This is mandatory for organisations wanting to borrow tools. In order to simplify borrowing equipment, up to three members of the organisation can drop by to borrow tools.

Frequently asked questions

Why was Tournevie founded?

Do you want or need to repair, maintain or renovate something at home from time time? Do you have limited storage space for tools, because you live in an apartment building for instance? Your budget is tight? Do you prefer to work with sturdy and high quality tools, rather than buying cheap tools that idle in your basement for years after having used them just once?

In all these cases, the purchase of a good drill or sanding machine is a significant and costly affair. To rid the world of these dilemma's, Tournevie brings together high quality tools by way of common management. By setting up our lending service, our 'commons' consisting of tools is effectively the most affordable, handiest and environmentally friendly choice.

Which tools does Tournevie have on offer?

We focus on a wide range of tools that enable you to repair, renovate or maintain at home. This means we don't offer larger industrial appliances, but rather equipment that everyone can use provided they dispose of the basic competences to operate them.

Furthermore, we pay extra attention to the quality of our equipment, which we keep as high as possible. This not only makes our service more sustainable, it also reduces maintenance and replacement costs of our inventory.

An overview of our tools can be found in the inventory. As a member, you can make reservations in the inventory and check the availabilities of your desired tools. The inventory is regularly updated. If you don't find what you need, suggestions are always welcome via mail.

who are we?

We are a group of +- 15 Brusselers passionately advocating sustainability and autonomy in the city and the world. Tournevie is an non-profit organisation run by a group of dedicated volunteers. An overview of these great 'ketjes' can be found on out team page.

To increase our offer, opening hours and all-round activities, we are constantly on the look-out for fresh blood to help us out. For more information, see the next question.

We can use all the help we can get! It doesn't matter which competences or background you have, as everyone has their own unique talents.

To give you an idea of skills we can use for sure, have a look at the profiles below (they are only available in Dutch or French for the time being):

  • Tool Librarians: hosting people during opening hours (NL) (FR)
  • Tool Ninjas: tool experts (NL) (FR)
  • Tool Ambassadors: communication (NL) (FR)

Don't limit yourselves to these profiles however. If you feel like helping out, send us an e-mail or drop by during opening hours. You're more than welcome!

Can i help Tournevie?

Can i make tool donations?

We are always on the look-out for tools, on the condition that they are high quality and still function well, or tools that can be repaired with a reasonable effort. Cheap appliances are not useful to us, especially when they are broken.

You like our initiative, and you have spare tools lying around? Then get in touch with Thomas, our main tool specialist.

We ask our members to follow a few simple rules to keep our tools in good working condition. These and other conditions can be consulted in our rules and regulations

Depending on new circumstances, this set of rules can be modified. If this is the case, we will publish this on the blog of our website. Reading the rules and regulations is mandatory before borrowing tools for the first time.

What are the rules when using our tools?

Which tool should I use / reserve?

Are you looking for the right machine to screw, drill, chisel or mix? Our online manual will help you find the right tool in an instant. We aim to develop manuals for other applications in the future, so stay tuned.

Does Tournevie sell tool consumables?

In order to use certain tools, you'll need specific consumables. Think of sanding paper or a saw blade for instance. To avoid that members need to head off to a shop after borrowing tools, we offer the most common consumables applicable to the tools in our inventory at a fair price.

Our offer is not as extensive as that of a regular wholesale shop, however you are able to purchase our consumable apiece rather than taking home a full box. The consumables you haven't used will be repurchased by Tournevie when returning the borrowed tools. This is the ultimate in resource efficiency!

An overview of our consumables and the corresponding prices apiece can be consulted online

How to access Tournevie?

Our workshop is located in the Rue Haute 298 / B. Metro & Tram Porte de Hal are at walking distance, just like the Place du jeu de balle and the elevator towards Place Poelaert and Palais de Justice.

The Rue Haute is a one way street for cars coming from Porte de Hal to the city center. Public parking lots can be found nearby at Parking Porte de Hal - Boulevard de Waterloo 103A and Parking Sablon-Poelaert - Place Poelaert. Parking your car in the Rue Haute is difficult, although it's possible to load and unload for a short duration.
