How does a tool library work ?

Gloves_screwdriver_website.png

Our tool libraries work like a regular library (and not like a rental company charging a fee for each borrowed tool).

Gloves_dancing_website.png

You take a subscription for a month or year, depending on your needs. That contribution allows us to maintain the tools.

You can then borrow quality tools without any restrictions. After one or two weeks, you bring everything back.

Drop by at our new 500 m² workshop situated at 15 Jacques de Lalaingstraat,
near metro station Maalbeek !

We are a non-profit initiative run almost entirely by a group of dedicated volunteers. We’re always on the lookout for new blood!

This is the vanguard of a 21st century economy: reducing waste, stimulating repair and creating an alternative to the throwaway society.

Tournevie is an affordable and ecological alternative to more expensive rental or sales outlets for repair or home renovation.

Tournevie is an open commons. The community itself manages the tools using a set of transparent rules. Anyone can join us.

Frequently Asked Questions

Five frequently asked questions

We ask our members to keep our tools in good working condition. These and other conditions can be consulted in our rules and regulations

Reading the rules and regulations is mandatory before borrowing tools for the first time at Tournevie.

WHAT ARE THE RULES WHEN USING OUR TOOLS?

What is the standard loan duration?

Depending on your subscription, the default duration is one or two weeks. You can extend your loan once with another a week via your online account. More info in our extensive FAQ.

Are you looking for the right machine to screw, drill, chisel or mix? Our online manual will help you find the right tool in an instant.

WHICH TOOL SHOULD I USE / RESERVE?

DOES TOURNEVIE SELL TOOL CONSUMABLES?

We sell the most common consumables (like saw blades, sanding paper, …) applicable to the tools in our inventory at a fair price.

You can purchase our consumable apiece rather than taking home a full box. We buy back what you don’t use. Here is an overview of our consumables and corresponding prices.

Can i donate tools?

High quality tools that still function well, or tools that can be repaired with a reasonable effort, are always welcome. We don’t accept cheap and broken appliances.

Do you like our initiative, and have you got spare tools lying around? Then get in touch with Thomas, our main tool specialist.

Haven’t found what you are looking for?

Note: the extended FAQ is a ‘work in progress’. We continue to expand it as we go along.
